'Major Accident' Closes I-176 In Eastern PA

Berks County drivers were asked to avoid I-176 in Caernarvon Township following a "major accident" early Monday afternoon, Sept. 25, authorities said.

Both the northbound and southbound lanes near Exit 2 were closed for several hours as first responders worked the scene.

State police said that a tractor-trailer in the right southbound lane was "operating too fast for the rainy conditions" and was unable to slow down for a red light.

The trucker tried to pull off onto the shoulder but hit an embankment and lost control before striking another tractor-trailer sitting at the red light in the left lane, troopers said.

The truck in the left lane tipped over and landed on the concrete barrier.

No injuries were reported as a result of the crash.
